Kelly Tarltons visit

Kauri 3 visited Kelly Tarltons as part of our topic this term about Antarctica. We had a fantastic day and this movie shows just some of the learning we did while we were there.

Stage 7 multiplication strategies

The Octagon group are currently working within Stage 7. The Numeracy project requires students to use a variety of strategies when tackling addition/subtraction/multiplication and division problems. This video is their demonstration of multiplying two numbers together. The strategies used are using distributive properties (using standard place value/ using tidy numbers) and proportional adjustment (doubling and halving). Have a look and decide which strategy you would choose.

Stage 6 subtraction strategies

The Hexagon group are currently working within Stage 6. The Numeracy project requires students to use a variety of strategies when tackling addition/subtraction/multiplication and division problems. This video is their demonstration of subtracting using 3 digit numbers. The problems are solved using place value knowledge/place value partitioning/compensating with a tidy number and by reversing (adding instead of subtracting). Have a look and decide which strategy you would use.

The Pentagon group are currently working within Stage 5. The Numeracy project requires students to use a variety of strategies when tackling addition and subtraction problems.
